A downloadable best game

best card!

there is one best card. but, there is no sign of it being best card. there are multiple other cards, they are pretty good cards, but not the best.

there is one best colour, it's green. there are four other colours, they are pretty good colours, but not the best.

what

  • between 5 and 9 players
  • about 30 minutes

game material

  • 1 best card
  • 20 pretty good cards
  • 1 best colour
  • 8 pretty good colours

diy!

this game is currently in the prototype stage. in order to play, gather the material visible in the top picture (paper, pen, colored stickers)(or anything that can do the same job, really), and reproduce the cards visible in the image - that is, 20 cards with a small drawing (pretty good cards!), 1 blank card (best card!), 8 cards with any color (pretty good colours!), 1 card with the green colour (best colour!).

Feel free to post pictures in comments, it's always great fun to see one's game played!

rules

all decisions in the game are made by voting. the absolute majority wins.

the game is played in several rounds. the rounds last until one player has 10 points.

basic rule: best card

in each round, the best card is placed in the center of the table. the pretty good cards are shuffled, and each player draws one and only one of them, without showing it to the other players. the players take note of their pretty good card, then place it in the center of the table with the best card, face down. the cards in the center of the table are shuffled, and then redistributed to the players at random, with one card going back to the center of the table - not necessarily the best card!

the players must then guess where the best card is, either in the hands of a player, or at the center of the table. the players must guess this without revealing their card, only by arguing. at the end of the discussion, the players vote for the location of the best card, either at the center of the table or in the hands of another player. the majority prevails.

the objective of the players without the best card is to guess where the best card is. the objective of the player with the best card is to get the players to vote for either another player or the center of the table.

the following table apply:

best card is in the center best card is with a player
players guessed correctly where best card is

best card is in the center, and players voted for the center

  • each player wins 1 point

best card is with a player, and the other players voted for said player

  • player with best card looses 1 point
  • the other players win 2 points each
players guessed incorrectly where best card is

best card is in the center, and players voted for another player

  • each player looses 1 point

best card is with a player, but the other players voted either for another player, or for the center

  • player with best card wins 2 points
  • each other player looses 2 points each

advanced rule: best colour

in each round, each player picks a color at random, which is revealed and thus known to everyone. if one person picks the best color, then that person will earn 3 extra points at the end of the round. the only way for that person not to earn 3 points is if the majority of players vote not to vote. then everyone loses 1 point.

what

that game was made in one hour and a half using only flash cards, a sharpie, glue, and some stickers. yay!
